19th-Century Townsman's Museum

The 19th-Century Townsman's Museum is located in one of the oldest and most distinctive buildings in Tartu's Old Town. The wooden house on Jaani Street, completed in the 1740s, is one of the few preserved buildings in Tartu. Its furnishings reflect the Biedermeier milieu of the 1830s and transport the visitor almost 200 years back to the everyday life of an urban middle-class citizen of the time. The museum's rooms — the parlor, dining room, the master's study and bedroom, and a period-appropriate kitchen located in the center of the house — are ideally suited for hosting smaller events of a ceremonial or academic nature: birthdays, seminars, trainings, smaller weddings, cultural events, or product presentations. The parlor accommodates up to 15 seated and up to 30 standing guests. It is certainly a place to make your event even more special and more historic. For a special experience you can order a guided tour to accompany the event or choose a themed workshop. It is worth mentioning that electricity is available, but the rooms' atmosphere is consistently authentic and dimmer than is usual in modern spaces. The house is wheelchair-accessible and has a separate entrance, making it suitable for receiving smaller, more private groups.

House rules
The unique building and historic furnishings place certain limits on how the rooms may be used. For example, the museum does not have period-appropriate electric lighting, although the building does have electricity.
