Silma Retreat

Silma Retreat is located in Haapsalu, just a five-minute drive from the town centre. And yet the town is barely noticeable here. On the shore of Saunja Bay and on the edge of the Silma Nature Reserve lies 18.06 hectares of private land where forest, water, architecture and landscape form a single whole. Silma is not a single event space but a whole range of places with different characters and possibilities. Here you can host a private dinner, a gathering, a birthday, a wedding, a corporate event or a retreat, but also a special multi-day event made up of different buildings, saunas, a lake, beaches and nature. At the heart of Silma stands the historic Silma Jahiloss – the main house built in 1906 and fully restored in 2021, where historic architecture meets modern comfort and top Italian and French design. Next to the main house the glass-walled Valge Luik has been created for food and togetherness. Valge Luik can seat up to 25 guests and, if desired, the fully equipped open kitchen can prepare the entire menu on site – among other things you can use a pizza oven, teppanyaki and a grill. In front of Valge Luik there is a large terrace and a heated, eye-shaped concrete pool. Päkapikumaja offers its own atmosphere – a private basement apartment with a wine cellar and a hot tub. In the middle of the private lake, on a small island, there is an authentic wood-fired smoke sauna, and getting there is already part of the experience. Silma Retreat also includes Must Luik, a spa house with a Finnish sauna, steam sauna and its own pond, and a private glamping area located on the edge of forest and bog. The whole Silma area was comprehensively developed between 2020 and 2025: the buildings are surrounded by terraces, water features, an herb garden and thoughtful outdoor lighting, and in the forest there are almost two kilometres of roads and paths with bridges. One of Silma’s most distinctive features is a nearly one-hectare private spring-fed lake with an island and two sandy beaches. A third private sandy beach is located by the boat channel. The lake is home to fish, and via the boat channel you can reach Saunja Bay directly. The surrounding Natura area is exceptionally rich in species: nearly 300 bird species and various mammals can be found here, and the forests offer mushrooms and berries. An event at Silma can include much more than gathering at one table – swimming at a private beach, boating, fishing, a walk in the forest, birdwatching, a sauna or simply an evening in nature. Silma Retreat is especially atmospheric in a season that other places don’t sell: in autumn and winter, when the fireplaces are lit, saunas are heated and the view from the pool looks out over a snow-covered forest. There is accommodation for up to 15 guests, allowing the event to continue the next day. A defining feature of Silma is freedom of choice. You can come for a few hours to a single special place or make the whole of Silma part of your event. Each event can have its own place, its own scale and its own rhythm.
