Värska Visitor Centre – Kindral Reegi House

Värska Külastuskeskus – Kindral Reegi Maja invites you to discover a unique part of Estonia's military-history heritage and to enjoy gatherings in the beautiful natural setting of Setomaa. Petseri Põhjalaager was established in Värska in 1926 as a summer training centre for the Estonian Defence Forces. Cavalry and artillery units trained here, and the site hosted barracks, officers' residences, stables, workshops, a canteen and the camp casino. The camp's activities ended with the loss of Estonian independence and the Soviet occupation. A memorial stone to the Põhjalaager also links the place to the repressions of 14 June 1941. Värska Külastuskeskus – Kindral Reegi Maja's exhibition weaves the history of the Põhjalaager with Värska's story as a resort area, offering something to discover for both history-loving adults and families with children. The historic house and beautiful surroundings create a pleasant setting for team days, seminars and social gatherings. Events can be complemented with a museum guided tour, a historical guided tour on the Põhjalaager trail, a picnic, children's activities or active recreation. For active recreation you can rent a boat, bicycles and paddle boats, and—under suitable winter conditions—ice skates. There is parking at the house for visitors arriving with motorhomes.
